Why does my Vauxhall Combo 1700 diesel van keep burning the starter relays?

I keep on having to change the realys, they burn, and I am now having to change them every other day just about.Would appreciate some help on this, its really annoying, thank you.|||check other loads that may be in the relays or check the wiring

The starter is ok or .....

The battery amps?|||Hi there it sounds as if you have a major short circuit for your relay to burn out, is the van starting ok is it slow turning over. a diesel takes more power to start than a petrol engine if your relay has two large terminals i suggest you take it out and with a heavy wire touch the big terminals where the relay would fit. if you get a large spark then definitely a bad short, if so then it is either the cable to the starter solenoid or the starter itself. to test the cable take off the solenoid wire on the starter motor and again try the wire on the relay terminal no spark means wiring ok so that leaves the starter motor..as the most likely cause.

you will probably find that the wire from the solenoid that disappears into the starter motor will be the cause. Jock

My mate say I should get it checked? can anyone advise?|||Sounds like one of the hydraulic tappets isn't filling up with oil right away. If left for a long time it'll eventually end up with you having to get it fixed. It's not a massive job but it does entail opening up the cylinder head.

Probably worth an oil change to see if that cures it, and if the car doesn't get many long runs, take it for a good 100 mile blast, you'll be surprised how many minor faults can be cured in a city-bound car by a long hard run up a motorway.|||It is the hydraulic cam followers one has gone weak. have you changed the engine oil if not then do so.

Also take the top of the rocker cover and look for wear on the cam shaft common problem on the vauxhall range. You can either replace the followers or go to a parts dealer and they do sell a addative to put in the oil to semi fix small hydraulic problems.|||probably a leaking hydraulic cam follower , problem is you will find it difficult to pinpoint which one it is, one for each valve your engine has, but as long as oil light isnt coming on then no need to worry|||Check the tappets, maybe one of them needs adjusting.

How do I clear transmission warning light off Vauxhall Astra 2004?

Transmission warning light came on. I had the vehicle repaired but the light is still on. Is there any way I can turn it off or does it have to be taken back to the garage?|||It needs reset by computer diagnostic kit. The mechanics should have done that after they had finished. It takes two minutes - but you will have to nip it back in to the garage, I'm afraid.|||You need to take the car down to the dealer and get it re-set.|||i would take it back to the garage that done the work cos i would worry that the work had not been carried out , but that's just me that's the luck i get ;)|||hit it with a hammer lol|||piece of electrical tape|||Sell it|||take the negative lead of the battery, wait 30 seconds then put it back on. Why does my Vauxhall Corsa's oil light come on when the engine is warm and idle?

When the revs are increased the light goes off until it goes idle again. It only happens once the engine has been running for a bit. In the owner's manual it says "Can light up intermittently when idling with a hot engine. Must go out when engine speed is increased". Seems odd that they'd make the car do this, especially as I only noticed it happening recently.|||Try a service ie:- oil %26amp; especially oil filter change

if the filter is dirty it could cause oil starvation it will damage your cars engine

I hope this could help best wishes|||The light indicates low pressure.

When the engine is hot, the oil gets thinner and the pump needs to work harder to maintain the pressure. So when you rev the engine the light goes out (pressure is increased). If you check the level of oil, you may find that it is low, so top-up using the correct grade of oil. If the light still comes on, get it checked at a garage.|||You don't give the mileage. If it is high it could be wear in the bearings. First do an oil and filter change. if there is no change have a garage hook up an oil pressure guage. There is a manufacturers idle pressure which I seem to remember is ~ 10 lbs at min. If it is lower than it should be it's time to get rid of the car or think about an alternative engine.|||Insufficient oil pressure or faulty oil pressure sender|||because it is a crap switch used by vauxhall get a decent switch fitted and no problem|||Check your oil level.|||interesting, take it to a garage and get them to do a diagnostics test. should come up pretty quick on the test

it sounds like the car is due an oil change, you have hydraulic tappets (can followers)in this car and when the oil is thick and gummed up they will not work correctly. How do I change the standard fit stereo on my 1999 Vauxhall Astra?

at least that way you can have a warranty and you know its done right the first time!|||yeah, go to halfords(if you havent got the stereo yet, if you buy it from them they will fit it for free) bear in mind, if you have the dashboard display ( track num, radio station etc) it will stop working because you have got rid of the vauxhall stereo|||i'm pretty experienced with car audio just from personal work ive done with my car and i wouldnt touch that. there's alot of complicated things you have going on with the steering wheel relaying information to the stereo and i think its best you left that up to a professional. go check out circuit city, i believe they still do a promotion where if you buy a new stereo from them they will install it for free|||go to halford. explain this to them and they will give you the correct connection blocks. it all depends on the stereo you want to fit if the clock and steering Coulomb work. iv fitted a few players to an Astra and nether times have the clock etc work as the stereo that replaced the old 1 did not have the out put 4 the steering Coulomb. helfords is your best bet. they will fit it for you as well if you want. its not hard to your self im a women and mannaged it lol|||Fitting a radio to this car is an easy task, but i would always recommend a good independent dealer, forget halfrauds i see several cars a week with burnt out ecu's etc. they don't know jack, Lets not forget their past history, don't they sell bikes!!!.

A good dealer will be happy to fit this for you, if you buy it from them they will most likely fit it for free and show you how it works.

Vauxhall wiring is similar to most German makes, they often have the permanent and switched voltage in the opposite way, this results in the radio loosing its memory once you remove the key.

if you do attempt to try and fit yourself you will find that the red and yellow wires from the head unit will have bullet connectors to correct this.

Simply unplug them both and swap them over.

to test tune into a radio station, take out your key and wait a minute, then re-insert your key and if the radio resumes the station then all is OK.

There are no other worries with fitting to the Astra as the rest of the wiring is not used, but bear in mind that your top dash display will not display the radio information unless you spend a little more money on getting the right head unit and appropriate adaptors. at this point i would say definitely go to a specialist.

Good luck

Anyone knows how much a taxi farees from Vauxhall to Stratford?

Hello everybody, I have to do a small move to my new house. I would like to know how much is it from Vauxhall SE11 to Stratford (I don't know the post code). More or less....

Thankssss|||It should cost you about 拢20 in a Black Taxi, providing you travel before 8pm. after that time it becomes more expensive due to the night rate. The advantages of using a Black Taxi are they can travel in bus lanes, so no waiting in lengthy traffic queues, The is lots of room in a taxi, I regularly take 5 people and 3 large and 2 medium sized suitcases. Also Black Taxi drivers have passed the 'Knowledge' which means they know London extremely well and have been vetted and had their background and character checked by The Public Carriages Office.|||forget about black taxis. they are very expensive. try a local minicab firm.

How long does it take to replace brake pipes on a Vauxhall Astra?

My mum over in England had a quote for 500 pound and when I told her to query it they said it's a 2 day job. I'm a little sceptical myself, but I've never replaced brake pipes.|||to have all the pipes on the vehicle changed and replaced with made up copper/nickel pipe (easy to bend dosn't rust) with all new tube nuts and blead system. would equate to half a days labour plus say 拢40 for parts. small garages charge about 拢25 per hour main agents 拢80. iv'e only once in all my time in the trade changed all pipes on a vehicle. renault 5 that hadn't had a straight mot for 6 yrs!|||There's no way you can change all the brake pipes on a car in two hours. I would estimate 6 hours would be a fair charge.

Most garages charge around 拢50+ per hour that would be around 拢300.|||If you mean that the metal brake lines are rusted and need replacement, that can be a big job sometimes because the metal lines are preformed to fit the chassis of the vehicle and the brake line connections are difficult to remove sometimes without replacing the wheel cylinders or other associated components. Unless your restoring the vehicle, why not replace just the one brake line that is leaking? There's no reason to replace all the brake lines just because you have a leak in one of the lines. Then the cost should be more like 100 pounds ($200 in the States) or 150 pounds if a wheel cylinder or caliper has to be replaced too.|||i think you ve been quoted rather badly here a garage should be able to change all the brake pipes in a couple of hours try going to an independant garage rather than a dealer and get a couple of quotes from different garages should be no more than 拢250.00 hope this helps|||Your mum will be ripped of if she accepts that quote. 2 day job my back side, tell her to go elsewhere. I wouldnt pay no more than 拢150 to 拢250 approx 4 hours labour max, depends on how much of the pipes required, flexible or metal or both, some garages make the metal pipes out of a long reel of pipe, others like main dealers may use genuine more expensive parts. Main dealers can rip u off just as much as some dodgy back street garage,if ur mum lives in essex england i can recommend a good garage.

Looking underneath the dash, toward the top of the brake pedal, you should see a large vacuum line going into a vacuum switch. How do you adjust the dip beam headlights on a Vauxhall Astra?

The dipped headlights on my 56 reg Astra have always been poor, but the service agent says this is the standard factory setting. |||The reflectors are designed to dip to the near side (kerb) and not straight ahead so there os no way to make them point straight ahead without changing the beam pattern.

By the sounds of it they need setting up as they are way out of alignment and borderline dangerous. Take it to another garage and get them set up properly or check your manual as it will say in there where the adjusters are for each headlight unit. Then park facing a wall so you can see the beam pattern and adjust as necessary. Do not go too high though as you will blind oncoming traffic andmay cause an accident also if adjusted wrong it will fail the MOT.|||They are supposed to point down and to the left - if they do not they will dazzle and fail an MOT. The lenses are designed to cut the lights distance to the right and pick it up higher and farther to the left. When there are no oncoming cars you use high beam which will light up the lines.

When there are oncoming cars you need to not look at the lines as they are too near thepoint where the oncoming headlights are and they will dazzle you. Keep the onoming traffic in yor peripheral vision and look a little to the left.

To increase night vision -

Fit higher output headlight bulbs

If adjustable lower the interior panel dash light level to as low as possible whilst still being able to see the dials.

Get your eyes tested - low light and night vision is the first thing to go.

How can i improve the morning start on my vauxhall combo?

My van takes a while to start in the mornings but then its fine all day i would be greatfull of any ideas as to what i need to do to improve the morning start.|||I have a Vectra turbo diesel, and I'd recommend that you change the glow plugs and fuel filter. Get a test light and get somebody to turn ignition on when you hold the light on one of the glow plug terminals.

If all ok, remove the strap connecting them all and check them with a multimeter. If you get a similar resistance (0.9 ish) from all four - they are almost certainly ok. If any are open circuit, replace the lot.

Finally, make sure the fuel filter is clean and full of fuel. If you take it off and the fuel is low in the filter, it could have a slight air leak somewhere allowing fuel to drain back to the tank.

Compression test and head gasket checked out.|||You mean before the big freeze,or before it got this god dam cold?makes a difference because I think you have a faulty coolant temperature sensor, but,as it's really cold,it might be the air manifold intake temperature sensor.Either of which has to be garage tested, neither of parts is that expensive.and probably an hours labour for the job.hope that helps.|||changing the oil %26amp; filter will not help. you do not say is it auto /manual first off i would change the fuel filter , then find a mechanic to give it a road test as there are many reasons for it. auto trans? check the fluid level|||it could be anything really, maybe get service on engine, plugs or coils breaking down maybe, but from your description it could even be a slipping clutch !

My vauxhall corsa c is loosing coolant on the front right side?

As above, i am loosing coolant but i am not overheating, i have had my head gasket recently changed so i dont know if this is a factor. It is leaking on the floor, not at a rapid pace but enough to think whats going on. any idead please. It is a vauxhall corsa c 52 reg.|||Could be the water pump which is a cheap part but lots of labour if it is cam belt driven, probably is, so maybe up to 拢200 at a garage|||a leak of coolant inside the car usually is caused by a leaking heater core. apparently your heater core has sprung a small leak.|||One idea is you have to find the leak and fix it. No one here can find the leak.

If you can't find the leak and fix it, you have to get someone else to find the leak and fix it.

How much to fix back suspension on a Vauxhall Corsa?

Placed a bid on ebay without reading it properly, so was just wondering how much back suspension costs to repair?|||Depends what needs doing - if it's the whole units look at at least 拢80 for the suspension struts and another 拢40 for the springs - that's each by the way.

Don't know much about Corsa's but if they are similar to my car that's how much I had to pay for new units - then you have to pay to have them fitted and that cost depends on where you take the car to have it done|||not much|||From breakers 拢20-拢30 for raer struts (legs) which come complete with springs

Can an extemely loose hub cap on my vauxhall astra cause wheel imbalance?

Steering wheel wobbles at 60mph. Is this caused by the loose hub cap or do wheels need balancing and the hub cap is incidental?|||If a hubcap is not centered when driving, then the weight isn't centered. I'd take the hubcap off and test it without.|||Hub cap not the problem, take it off and take vehicle on freeway and the same codition will still be there. Have the tires rotated to the rear and see if the problem is solved. Then have the tires inspected for broken cords, balance, and abnormal wear. And why, could be alignment, loose steering components, worn, broken, bent. I would start with moving the front tires to the rear and road test the vehicle.|||My guess you need an alighnment. Loose hubs would be more of a pain to the people behind you on the highway :)|||Yes. Take it off if and if it still wobbles then it is the hubcap.|||All wheels are to be balance at all time, take it to a certified mechanic and have them check your steering it could be your steering is bad

BUYING A CAR TORN BETWEEN A FORD PUMA OR A VAUXHALL TIGRA WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Hi i am buying a car and i pushed between a vauxhall tigra or a ford puma please can anyone out there give me some advice anyone got either of these any comments, would gladly be appreciated. Does anyone know someone who is selling either also?. Thanks Julie.|||Ford Puma (and if you can get one, a Ford Racing Puma (FRP)). One of the best handling FWD cars around. Loads of fun. You need to watch out for rust though, as they can be quite prone to it. There are a few tidy FRP examples on autotrader. A lot of them have been well looked after by enthusiast so well maintained also.

Have a look for a Puma owners club online. They will be more than happy to help you.|||Ford Puma.

How much would it be to insure a vauxhall corsa?

I'm 18 and this will be my first car, the car will be around ten years old.|||In excess of 拢2000.|||i had a vauxhall corsa for my first car when i was 18 and it was 1600 for the year and that was with a tracker meaning that i couldnt drive between 11pm and 5am

however after the year the insurance went up to 2200 without the tracker

and now the quotes i get are just over 3000 and i am 20

but you are just better off trying compare the market or something because a lot weighs heavily on your post code, and obviously your age and the type and litre of your car with the corsa being a very good car for insurance so there is no way to know exactly unless you use a compare website

What causes my Vauxhall Combo van to swerve while driving? This is esecially noticeable on corners?

Its a new van to me,not a new van itself, but I was told that the van was serving by someone who followed me for a number of miles. It only confirmed what i was pretty sure of as a driver.I would appreciate feed back on this.I have had Escort vans previously over a number of years, and dont recall encountering this problem one.Thank you.|||Get your tracking checked out. Turn the wheel to full lock and examine the tread. If either of your front tyres is worn unevenly, ie: tread on one half of tyre deeper than other, then you need to get your tracking sorted. Not expensive, most tyre places do it.

Otherwise have you checked your tyre pressures ?|||tires, front end, or chassis out of true-get it checked out before it kills you.

How do you switch off vauxhall astra 05 plate alarm off?

I have alarm system in my vauxhall astra coupe, which goes off constantly and i live too far away to hear it, so i had an official complaints about it. How do i de - activate the alarm.|||Assuming it's the Vauxhall standard system: There is no way to lock the car without setting the alarm. You will have to disconnect it. This has to be done with the ignition switched on or else the internal battery sounds the alarm till flat.

However there are 2 bits on the alarm, the door sensors, and the internal movement and anti jack(tilt) sensors. If you press both the interior light buttons as you get out (should start the alarm LED flashing) and then lock within 10 seconds the movement sensors %26amp;c. are disabled, leaving just the door switches live. Being mechanical those should be ok., though the car won't be quite as secure.

I had just this problem with my Astra and it was the tilt sensor, replaced fortunately under warranty. If it's a recent purchase take it back and make the dealer fix it as it's not fit for use|||The car's under warranty, presuming it's a Vauxhall fit alarm, so go back to the dealers %26amp; get them to sort it out. Sounds like the sensitivity needs adjusting.|||i have no idea, mine doesn't do that? maybe there 's a fault? go to vauxhall or a garage and ask|||There's several ways but the real question is why it keeps going off? Does it go off straight away or does it take a while? It could be that the sensitivity of the motion sensor needs down tuning or perhaps the unit is completely faulty, officially I'd say return to the manufacturer unless you're technically minded, in which case, read the manual and adjust the motion sensor.|||I am not suggesting that you are not the owner of the car but the handbook will give you the answer and so will the local Vauxhall Dealership.|||Press the off button you ****

On a Vauxhall Zafira there are protective strips on the rear bumper that look like they can unclip?

I am looking to replace one of them and wonder how difficult they are to take off the bumper and replace, will the unclip with a flat driver to lever them away from the bumper??

Any help thanks!|||They should do.

Just been out to look at our zafira.|||Be careful! They look like cosmetic strips, in the sense that they are integral with the bumper. In any event levering off will snap the plastic clips, and damage the main bumper.

Ask Vauxhall on their technical line before you proceed.

How to program a Vauxhall Vivaro Key Fob?

I am planing on buying a new key %26amp; fob for my Vauxhall Vivaro and was wondering if i could program it myself for the van or do I have to take it to a specialist? And if i can how do i do it????

Thanks

Brendan|||I think it's just the same as the Renault Master on which it's based.

1. Turn Ignition OFF.

2. Press the central door locking button for more than 5 seconds.

Note : the door should lock then unlock.

3. When this happens, 10 seconds is allowed for the rest of the procedure and the immobiliser warning light should illuminate 鈥?not flash, illuminate.

4. Press the remote control once, the doors should lock and unlock.

5. Repeat for second remote if required.

6. Check that the remote control unlocks and locks the doors.

if no joy-

Disconnect Negative Terminal of battery for over 15 min , reconnect battery.

Hold down the internal central locking button for 5 seconds the main red light will go to solid red.

Press the internal central locking button twice.

Then holding the key fob button insert into ignition (still holding the button) and turn to the pre ignition position where the glow plugs light lights up|||It's not a DIY job. You actually have to set the car's electronics to recognise the new key fob. Vauxhall dealer or a GOOD general auto electrical specialist. You will need the car's PIN; this is a four digit number that should have been supplied on a card with the car. If you haven't got this it's rather expensive.|||Yes you need to go to a dealer and the code for the Vivaro is actually something like a 17 digit code.|||you will have to get vauxhall to do it or try an auto locksmith

Can I swap 15 inch wheels for 14 inch alloys on my Vauxhall?

I have a 2002 Vauxhall Astra 1.6D with 15 inch wheels. I still have the 14 inch alloy wheels off my 1980 something (Can't remember - shame on me - it was E reg) Vauxhall Cavalier SRi 130. Is it possible to replace the 15 inch wheels with the 14 inch alloys? Thanks|||virtually any vauxhall 4 stud will fit another 4 stud, rear drum brake, its the spigot ring in the centre if it will fit over the centre hub, plus if the wheels dish the right way to clear the calliper on the front|||I think you'll find the hubs are different sizes, and you can't physically fit the wheels on - I had that problem with a previous car.|||Yes, but you need bigger tyres so that the circumference of the tyre remains constant - would look odd though...|||yes you can its pretty easy they should fit well|||It should be OK. But check your clearance in your wheel arches. Look at other Astra's or see a custom car book.|||Don't try! even if they do fit your speedo will read incorrectly afterwards, and it will alter the ride of the car|||I tried this many years ago but the other way round (smaller to larger). It affected the road holding plus i blew the big ends. I'd give it a miss if i were you.|||yes they will fit...unless your astra is a van...i recall the rear hubs are bigger than than the car...also depends on the front disc/calipers..they may hit the wheel...best bet is to give them a go...|||they should fit fine. they are all vauxhall parts so the bolts should go in the same place. after that its only a case of seeing if the smaller wheels fit over the brakes

How do I change the headlight bulbs on my Vauxhall Corsa?

I have an L Reg 1994 Vauxhall Corsa.

Can anyone tell me how to change the bulbs in the headlights?

Thank You :)|||To change the headlight bulbs, you need to disconnect the multiplug on the back of the bulb first. These just pull off but are ridiculously tight (don't pull too hard because the headlamp mounting clip will shatter and the headlamp will flop about). Try to hold the bulb itself while you pull this off (squeeze the bulb through the rubber cover surrounding it). Once disconnected, remove the rubber cover.

The last step is to move the wire clip that holds the bulb. You should see two bent wire rings above the bulb, push in and to one side to unhook and then the bulb drops out. The bulb will only go in one way so make sure the locating tags are the right way up (large tag to the top). Don't touch the glass of the bulb with your fingers as it will shorten its life.

If the mounting clip breaks, they cost very little from a Vauxhall dealer and just need the headlamp removing to replace them.|||your new cars under the hood you have two locks u pinch both at once and twist counter clockwise to unlock then bulb should just pull out use a rag on the new ones to keep clean oil from your fingers can blow the new one when it gets hot

Is 拢2000 a good price to pay for a vauxhall astra van 05 plate with 70.000 miles in good condition?

is 拢2000 a good price to pay for a vauxhall astra van 05 plate with 70.000 miles in good condition?|||Assuming you mean a diesel Astravan Envoy 1.7 CDTi, then its a very good price, trade price at 61000 would be about 拢2000 with retail price being about 拢3000.

Obviously check the service history and if possible HPI/Experian check the car to confirm its owners, not on finance etc.|||It's an ok price, I don't think you will find any cheaper for that age and if it's in good condition.

Remember to check the wheals, when the tax %26amp; mot run out and the service history because it will be a con if they aren't up to scratch!

I know a few people who've bought similar age for about 拢2,500 /拢3,000, but with a less mileage, it seams reasonable but there's no harm in trying to haggle the price down hehe :)|||Too cheap and too good to be true - make sure you check it fully, particularly the mileage and do an HPI check to see if it has been written off and repaired.

My Vauxhall combo van has done 104,000 miles.is it possible that its the same cam belt from start?

It is a diesel 1700 cc engine,Isuzi.I am not sure whether to change the cam belt and whole kit,as have been told it was done a couple of thousand miles ago,but there is no paper evidence of this.Is there a way to tell?I suppose the safe option would be to change, prepare to spend around 拢260,maybe more, but its a dilemma.Would like advice or suggestions.Thank you.|||With no evidence it is a gamble and you know that anyway don't you.

Are you sure it has a cam belt and not a chain?|||Get it checked, it isn't hard to remove the covers (if you know what you're doing) and make sure the oil pump isn't leaking while you're in there. I've changed countless oil pumps and their respective pulleys because of leaks or pulley nuts coming loose. When they leak, there is usually an oil trail between the two covers (where they fit together).

If you change the belt, make sure you replace all idler/tensioner pulleys too.|||Only if you have been very lucky! If your van is in reasonable condition %26amp; it runs OK get it changed ASAP. A nephew didn't change his golf's rubber band %26amp; the big bang cost over a grand. Not nice....

What engines can be fitted into a 1995 Vauxhall Tigra?

i have a vauxhall nova with a 4 stud bolt pattern, and is it true that any vauxhall 4 stud alloys will fit any vauxhall with a 4 stud bolt pattern?|||I would says yes. Which child seat to use in the front of a Vauxhall Vectra - can we switch off the airbag?

We have new twins and need to get all 3 of our children into our 2001 Vauxhall Vectra. But we cannot get three seats across the back seat. Our older boy (2) will need to go in the front but we can't switch off the airbag - does anyone know how to do this? Vauxhall make a seat with a transponder to switch off the airbag but it only works with newer models. Any other suggestions very welcome - I can't afford a new car!|||i has a similar problem and contacted my local vauxhall dealer where the car came from and i was told they cant disable the airbag for safety reasons three other dealerships told me that as well i would keep looking or try google with your question good luck|||You will have to ask dealer or get a wiring diagram for the airbags, there will be a fuse or pig tail you can remove/unplug behind a trim panel by the air bag. You can also slide the seat as far back as possible, should be a far enough distance from bag deployment.|||My ciroen has a switch you turn|||Halfords or Toysrus should help you with fitting the car seat.

You should not really buy a car seat without someone shows you how to fit it properly.

Plus i'm not sure but if he's in a forward facing car seat i don't think that the air bag needs to be turned off.Halfords or Toysrus or indeed anyone selling car seats should be able to confirm this.|||Try going to halfords they can be very helpful when it comes to car seats, i had the same probs when i had a vectra so i saved up and traded in for a zafira.

CD Player not working in my Vauxhall Zafira 07 Reg?

My husband recently left the lights on overnight on our Zafira, running the battery out. We recharged the battery with a power pack, but it must have caused a power serge, blowing the fuse for the CD player. We've read the manual to see if its easy to change but cant make head nor tail of it. Has this happened to anyone else?? And do you know how to sort it out or should we take the car to a Vauxhall garage - it is still under warranty.|||Once again not quite enough information. How do i change a 2004 Vauxhall Astra Rear Light?

Hi

I have a Vauxhall Astra and I unfortunately backed into something and smashed the casing.

Having looked it, it looks as though I have to replace the whole rear cluster casing.

I plan to buy one of these but how do I change it?

I've looked in the boot and I can locate two bolts and this loosens the casing, but it still won't come out....

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks|||Hello

If you look at the 2 bolts that you have found

If they are both at the Top of the Cluster there should be another 2 at the Bottom.

If 1 is at the Top and 1 at the Bottom on the same side there should be another 2 on the other side of the Cluster.

If you go and buy the New/Second Hand One you will see where the other 2 are.

You may have to remove some trim to get to them.

Andy C|||You are on the right track undoing the 2 bolts. Chances are it wont come any further because its stuck due to a bit of bent bodywork. Have a look and ease it out. Will need it free to put a new one in as well|||Maybe tell the driver to get driving lessons for a start.

I can recommend you to go to a car shop, they can give you some sources to help you fix the light.

The airbag light is on all the time on my vauxhall vectra?

I have a 2.0lrt gls vauxhall vectra y reg and my airbag light stays on all the time 1st does anyone know why this is happening 2nd will it fail the mot on this problem 3rd any idea of the cost if i get it fixed ????????|||I had the same problem on an Astra. Was told it would not effect the airbag, and was not dangerous. All I did to stop the annoting light was to take the light out.Problem solved for free.My car never failed an MOT.|||It's not an MoT item. It may just be something silly like a loose connector under the seat, or it may be something else. Until you get it checked you won't know, and you ought to get it checked 'cos you don't want the thing to go off in your face or, worse, fail to go off at all in an accident.|||the 1st question is easy that problem is caused by a faulty air bag compresser that fills the air bag up when the car starts up are there could be a senscer that is bad too we have seen some deflait at times due to a sensor problem and yes it will fail the test if not fixed properly cause the computer will send a signal to the light and the sensor to stay on untill it is fixed and will not go out untill the computer is reset and that is a easy thing to do try taken the battery cable off the posative side and wait 5 minutes and the put it back on and that should reset the computer and the sensor ok hope this helps......and it should cost all that much to fix a simple problem like this one ok thanks|||It is not a testable item so it will not fail .Since its a safety related item you should get it attended to .Very often on vectras its the squib driver that's faulty that is the air bag connector. You need a Vauxhall dealer to check it out with Tech 2 diagnostic tool.|||It comes and goes on and off in my astra off the same year all the time, on mine its the sensor which causes it, ive had replaced which stopped it for nearly two years, but its back again now. I generally ignore it, but weather or not the airbags will actually fire in an accident is anyone's guess.

As for MOT , the airbag although pretty much standard on newer cars is still seen as optional safety equipment. and therefore not checked. Mines passed many mot's with the light blinking away.|||i had a simmiler problem on my renault clio.

i never had any problems with the mot and i took it to a garge and they told me it wasnt even worth fixing and that my airbag was fine.

make sure you get your airbag checked out though its only about twenty quid in most garages|||Go and see a dealer asap, as your airbag is switched off and will not go off if you have an accident. Basically something on the airbag system isn't working so for safety sake it switches off so it doesn't go off accidentally. It probably wouldn't fail the MOT as long as your seatbelts buckle correctly. See dealer for potential costs, as it could be a number of things, and these all have different poces.

Why wont my vauxhall corsa start?

I have a 2006 vauxhall corsa sxi, I stopped the car last night and since then have been unable to start it. The engine is turning over when I turn the ignition key but it will not start. There are no abnormal indication lights on the instrument panel. Any ideas what the problem with starting could be.|||As the other contributors have mentioned..

1. Check for fuel delivery, turn the ignition on and make sure you're getting fuel right up to the injectors.

2. Check for spark. If it's petrol then pull a spark plug lead out %26amp; rest it on the rocker cover of your engine and stand back so to not get shocked by the voltage, now have someone turn the engine over to check for good spark. You must try this across all banks.

3. If it's a diesel and you're not getting diesel to the front then it could be an immobiliser problem. We fix so many ECU's on Vauxhalls with similar problems (Astra's, Corsa's and Vectra's) all with very similar faults. An auto-electrician will know how to bypass the immobiliser temporarily to confirm this issue.

4. Check the compression of the engine - in fact as stated previously this should be done before looking at electrical problems.

5. It could most definitely be an ECU fault so if it is diagnosed as an ECU fault then call us first before spending 拢400-600 on a new unit + programming. We can repair your original unit and return it to you with 1yrs warranty and it won't have to be reprogrammed because we won't disrupt the original code. If we have to, we'll remove the immobiliser from as well.

E. Using your strap wrench remove the oil filter, have plenty of rags ready.

F. Smear some oil on the new filter rubber sealing ring and tighten as hard as you can by hand only.

G. Wipe away any oil you have spilt/splashed on the block and elsewhere

H. Using the T45 TORX Wrench undo the drain plug in the sump, it may be difficult to fit the wrench into the sump plug initially, due to oxidisation of the Ally plug, sometimes it helps to give it a light tap with a small hammer. Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty.

I. Allow the oil to drain into your pre-positioned receptacle.

J. Removing the filler cap will help a bit.

K. While the oil is draining, clean the drain plug and renew the washer if you got one with the service kit.

L. When the oil has finished draining replace the drain plug and ensure it is tight but don't over tighten it the sump and plug are Ally and the threads will easily strip

M. Top up with the correct quantity of synthetic oil, until the dip stick shows full.

N. Start the engine, check for leaks.

O. No Leaks, then remove vehicle from ramps.

P. Run engine 'til warm, switch off, recheck oil and top up as necessary.

NEVER WORK UNDER A CAR SUPPORTED BY A JACK.|||Before you start, you need some oil, something to collect the old oil in, a container for taking the old oil to the recycling centre and a tool for removing the sump plug. (With Vauxhalls, this is usually a large Allen key)

Drive round the block to get the engine warm. Put something under the sump to collect the oil and take out the sump plug. (Wear thick gloves - it's hot). When all the oil has run out and it's stopped dripping, put back the sump plug, then add new oil. Add it a little at a time and wait before you check the oil level - it takes time to run through.

Usually when you change the oil, you also change the oil filter. That's more difficult and you do it after you've drained the oil. On a Vectra it's a cannister. You unscrew it - either using a chain wrench or by punching a hole in it with a screwdriver and using that as a lever. You need to be very careful putting the new filter in because if you don't get the seal sitting correctly, it will leak.

Now you take the oil and filter down to the recycling centre. You'll probably find it's easier and cheaper to phone a mobile mechanic to come and do it.|||Most vehicles are along these lines :

let the engine warm up and switch off.The engine oil drains easier when hot.

Look underneath the engine is the sump. ( The oil pan )

On the sump's lowest point is usually a bolt or similar fitting that has to be removed where the oil drains out of.

Find a container to fit underneath the sump and place it under the bolt you will remove. Remember the oil is hot and carefull not to mess , and if the bolt falls into the oil it's ok you can find it later.

Loosen the oil filler cap and remove it ( on top of the tappet cover usually )

Remove the oil filter and replace it with a new one.It screws off. If it is tight use a strap wrench or similar tool.(Remember- Lefty loosey and righty tighty ) Put a little oil on the oil filter seal so it seals nice, don't overtighten it.

Remove the drain plug ( the bolt on the sump ) and let all the oil drain out. Replace the drainplug and tighten .

Pour in the new oil (Suggest SAE 30 or thicker SA40 for older worn engines ).

Don't overfill , add just enough to go 3/4 full on the dipstick.Start the engine after you replaced the filler cap, check for oil leaks where you worked, the level will drop because of the new oil filter being empty, stop the engine and fill to the full mark.

Cheers, have some beers.|||I'm going to combine two good suggestions. Get yourself a Haynes manual which will show you not only how to do this job but many others too. Either find a well-recommended local garage or a mobile mechanic to do the job first time round and watch what they do. Smaller garages will sometimes allow you into the workshop to watch, other places are a bit more 'Elf %26amp; Safety oriented . . .

It's a lot easier to watch rather than read up on.|||on the bottom of the engine is a box like casing which is called the sump, on that sump is a drainage screw that u take out and this will allow all the engine oil to come out. then when that is done replace the screw tightly and fill engine With oil again. do not over fill engine with oil and make sure its on level ground when u do it.|||The only thing I have to add to the tips is that the sump plug is a Torx headed bolt, not an allen key style. A 45 if I remember correctly.

To be honest, if you've not done a job like this before, get someone to show you or at least invest in a manual. It's not something you want to mess up. Better still, take it to a private garage and ask if you can watch or even help. You might be surprised if you find the right sort of place.|||Get a Haynes manual for your car - it will show you in step by step instructions with photographs, and will pay for itself as soon as you use it. What to buy a Ford Ka or a Vauxhall Corsa?

My 1.2 L reg corsa that I have had 4 6 months had died and gone to car heaven, so its time to buy another one but something a little newer, and as Im a 1st time driver and only been driving 6 months I need something low on insurance So I need your advice on what is more reliable and nicer to drive a Ford Ka or a Vauxhall Corsa? I have aprrox 拢2000 to spend on the car.

Even thought I have had trouble with a corsa already it hasn't put me off enquiring about them as I the one I has was a very old runner and only cost me 拢325.|||You'll get better performance and handling from a Ka. I'd go for the Ford. They are generally better than Vauxhalls.|||I have had my Corsa 'P' reg for about 6 years now and I have never had any bother with it at all, apart from new exhaust that all cars need some time. I love it because it is low on tax and insurance, small enough to get into spaces and the hatch back is so useful - I even do boot fairs with it!! When I replace it (when it goes to car heaven) I will definitely get another Corsa because it has served me so well. My last car was a Vauxhall too and I had no bother with that either.|||i have a corsa and its been a really good car .not spent alot on repairs ....so if it was me i would get another corsa ....i,ve heard the ford ka is very small and the boot is tiny ..no good if you like shopping or have kids .....stick with the corsa .. good luck !!!!!!!!!!!!|||Vauxhall Corsa all the way for looks and also condition also saftey as well!

I've had it ever since I passed my test 2 years ago and I've never had any problems with it at all. It's very cheap to insure, even for young drivers, and is cheap to run - I can go to my nan's and back (a good 180 mile round trip) easily on half a tank (bout 拢25-30 to fill it up). Basically I find it a brilliant car - both for city driving and longer distances.

I am thinking of buying a Vauxhall vectra diesel 2003 do they have good engines. Are vauxhall known to have good diesel engines.|||I wouldn't buy a Vectra Diesel period.

But if you really want one, the 120bhp engine is slightly less likely to land you with a huge repair bill than the 150bhp one. But don't buy one thinking you'll save money over a petrol one.

If either the diesel particulate filter or dual mass flywheel, which usually needs replaced with a clutch change, need to be replaced you're looking at well over 拢500 each. And that's at local garage prices, not Vauxhall dealers.

Anyone know the cost of replacing a Vauxhall corsa motor for the scren wash?

The screen wash facility on my Vauxhall Corsa car got frozen and didn't work over Christmas, I thought once it had thawed it would work but it didn't. the mechanic at the garage told me this morning that the it was the motor that had gone in the screen wash (he didn't even check it) and it would cost over 拢200 to replace plus vat and labour charges, is this a fair price, anyone know before I book it in for repair. Knitting pattern for Blue off the vauxhall adverts?

My brother wants me to knit him the blue character from the c'mon dolls that are advertising the vauxhall adverts, any idea's would be much appreciated.|||I have no idea what you're talking about, as I live in a different country and don't get the same adverts. However, I can tell you generally how to make anything into a knitting pattern. If you draw passably well, draw the figure onto graph paper. If you don't draw well, get a photo of whatever you want to knit. Place a thin sheet of graph paper over the picture and trace it onto the graph paper.

Use that as a guide, using one square as a stitch horizontally, and 2 squares as 3 rows vertically. (Knit stitches aren't square, but are wider than they are tall, so you need to make this adjustment to make your picture come out ok.) Work it out from there.

If he wants this character as a freestanding figure, you'll need to increase and decrease to make the shape. Write down what you're doing so you can make the front and back identical, or knit them both at the same time.

If he wants it on a jumper, get a plain jumper pattern and incorporate this graphed picture onto the front of the jumper. Figure out how to center it by counting. Count your stitches across the front of the jumper. Count across the bottom row of your graphed picture. Subtract the number of squares on your picture from the number of stitches across the front of the jumper and divide your ansewer by 2. That's how many stitches of jumper you'll need before starting your picture. (If your jumper is 80 stitches across and your picture is 30 squares across, you'll make 25 stitches and then switch colors to start your picture, knit those 30 stitches, and then switch colors again to do the last 25 stitches across the jumper front.)

Sorry but...........|||I'm busy this evening, sorry.|||open the bleed vales fully one turn is not enough and make certain you have the pedal on the floor when the valve is shut|||Invest or borrow a pressure bleeder. Also if its a girling system inside the master cylinder is a small pin that pops into place in the event of brake failure to one of the systems.(this is on a dual braking system) in the event of this happening you some times need to fit a cylinder repair kit.|||i'm afraid its the mecanic for you.opels are a b*****for this.the seals in the master cylinder can become inverted and are now ineffective .any good mecanic should be able to strip the cylinder and sort this out for you.|||Start by bleeding the master cylinder where you put the fluid in.A bit messy but get some body to pump the brake pedal 2 or 3 times, the n open and shut the pipes on the master cylinder when fluid comes out.If not then you've got a master cylinder fault?Assuming you get fluid? Then Go to the furthest away pipe (n/s/r)And repeat the procedure.2 or3 pumps of the pedal then open and close the bleed nipple. If you get brake fluid there, then do o/s/r then both fronts.Hope this sorts your problem,if not repost the question|||Gunsons Eezibleed. 拢15. Works a treat.|||There is a 'hidden' bleed nipple on the load reduction valve at the back axle. You need to bleed the brakes here too to get any sort of decent pedal. Your problem is solved. You're welcome.

Changing a clutch on a vauxhall corsa?

I need to change the clutch in my wifes vauxhall corsa it is a 51 plate ( uk registered ) 1200 cc 4 cylinder petrol version and is hydraulicly operated, is there anything special i need to know and are they easy to replace ?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.|||There`s nothing special about it,you just have to remove the slave cylinder,(if it`s external),or clamp the flexy.and disconnect the pipe if the slave cylinder is internal and then bleed the hydraulics once the job is done.|||Best thing to do is get a manual.

To change the clutch you need to slide the gearbox to get to the clutch.

Not a beginners thing.|||If your a good mechanic it's easy.

If your on yahoo answers asking how it's done then best of luck mate.

Many thanks if anyone can help.|||to find out what light it is. turn ignition on but dont start the light will illuminate before starting then you can give a better description if it comes on round corners have a look at all you fluid levels as a low level could bring a light on

@yes there should be a yellow or black cap at the top of the engine the oil goes in there but too check find dipstick and check where oil level is up too there should be 2 marks if its below the bottom its pretty urgent just dont put too much oil in the distance between the 2 marks =1l of oil|||make sure the oil is full and could be the oil swicth|||Can you describe what picture is in the light?
