How can i improve the morning start on my vauxhall combo?

My van takes a while to start in the mornings but then its fine all day i would be greatfull of any ideas as to what i need to do to improve the morning start.|||I have a Vectra turbo diesel, and I'd recommend that you change the glow plugs and fuel filter. If the fuel filter hasn't been changed in a while, a new one should do the trick.|||You need to know you have power to the glow plugs. Get a test light and get somebody to turn ignition on when you hold the light on one of the glow plug terminals.

If all ok, remove the strap connecting them all and check them with a multimeter. If you get a similar resistance (0.9 ish) from all four - they are almost certainly ok. If any are open circuit, replace the lot.

Finally, make sure the fuel filter is clean and full of fuel. If you take it off and the fuel is low in the filter, it could have a slight air leak somewhere allowing fuel to drain back to the tank.

The year of the Combo and which engine is fitted would be useful.|||Most combo's have Isuzu diesel engines so I'll base my answer on that.....

Start draining any water from the fuel filter, easy to do and free!

if still pants...

Then a set of glow plugs!

If fitting a new set doesn't cure the cold start problem and the engine is quite high mileage then you may need to have the valves re-shimmed a decent garage should only charge about 拢40ish not really a diy job as you need to order the right size shims, vauxhall may be cheaper as they hold most shim sizes on the shelf.

its common for these engines to loose compression as the valves become worn.|||Hi

We have the same problem with our van, we were recomended to have new glow plugs fitted but unfortunately it did not cure our problem but may cure yours. If we manage to solve our problem I will post the answer and trust that you will do the same.
