Why does my Vauxhall Combo 1700 diesel van keep burning the starter relays?

I keep on having to change the realys, they burn, and I am now having to change them every other day just about.Would appreciate some help on this, its really annoying, thank you.|||check other loads that may be in the relays or check the wiring

The starter is ok or .....

The battery amps?|||Hi there it sounds as if you have a major short circuit for your relay to burn out, is the van starting ok is it slow turning over. a diesel takes more power to start than a petrol engine if your relay has two large terminals i suggest you take it out and with a heavy wire touch the big terminals where the relay would fit. if you get a large spark then definitely a bad short, if so then it is either the cable to the starter solenoid or the starter itself. to test the cable take off the solenoid wire on the starter motor and again try the wire on the relay terminal no spark means wiring ok so that leaves the starter motor..as the most likely cause.

you will probably find that the wire from the solenoid that disappears into the starter motor will be the cause. Jock
